Non-stop rain lashes Cyprus

Torrential rains relentlessly battered the island yesterday, with a reported 80 calls to emergency services and traffic jams congesting the motorways and the streets of the capital.

The main problems were reported in the Famagusta, Larnaca and Nicosia districts, with homeowners and motorists calling for help to deal with the effects of the relentless rain, including basement flooding and rescues from stranded cars. Read the rest of this entry »

Water reserves at 51%

Nearly 11 million cubic metres of water have flowed into dams in Cyprus since the beginning of February raising the water reserves to 51%.

Winds cause chaos

High winds caused chaos in Nicosia Wednesday.

Gusts of up to 7 beaufort felled trees and damaged cars.

The winds were accompanied by temperatures as low as 9 centigrade with the mercury expected to fall even lower over the next couple of days.
