More rain forecast as police warn of slippery roads

A low pressure system is moving slowly east with more rain forecast for today. There will be dust in the atmosphere at intervals, particularly tonight. The dust will gradually clear from Friday night, the met office said.

Road update

Police have warned that because of the heavy rain, roads are slippery and some roads are closed.

The Ayios Nicolaos to Mandria Platres road is closed because of landslides. Drivers are advised to use the Ayios Nicolaos-Arsos-Omodhos road.

Tselefos Bridge and the Salamiou-Galataria and the Kelokedara-Nata-Salamiou roads are closed as is Potamia bridge in Nicosia district.

Weather forecast

Today will be partly cloudy and cloudy at intervals with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Snowfall or snow showers are possible in Troodos.

Temperatures will be 16 C inland and on the east coast, 17 C on remaining coasts and around 6 C in the higher mountains.

Tonight there will be intervals of mainly fine weather and intervals of cloud, while isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast, particularly near the coasts. Snowfall in forecast in Troodos. Temperatures will fall to 8 C inland, around 9 C on the coasts and 1 C in the mountains.

Friday will be partly cloudy and at intervals cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Snowfall is expected in the mountains. Temperatures will remain about the same at average for the time of year.

On Saturday there will be intervals of cloud and intervals of fine weather and scattered showers and/or thunderstorms are forecast. Snowfall is expected in the higher mountain peaks.

Sunday will be mainly fine with increased cloud at noon and in the afternoon. Temperatures will remain at above average for the time of year.

At the time of issue of the weather bulletin, there was 40 cm of snow in Troodos Square.
