Roads close in Troodos following heavy snow

Police have issued a warning to motorists not to venture into Troodos following a series of road closures due to heavy snow.

Weather officials had previously warned of a drop in temperatures on Sunday that would lead to snow showers in the mountains and perhaps in the lower plains of the island. The same cold conditions are expected to continue in Monday.

Traffic police, meanwhile, have announced that the roads Karvouna-Troodos, Platres-Troodos and Prodromos-Troodos have been closed off for all vehicles due to heavy snow fall.

Motorists are also being warned about thick fog around the various mountain areas and that vehicles should keep a safe distance from each other and to always keep their headlights on.
